Optometric externs see most eye disease and emergencies at our Fernandina Beach office. Our doctors treat our externs as they would practicing Optometric Physicians, allowing the externs to triage and manage the care of most of the ocular emergencies that present to the office. Externs are also allowed to see as many primary care and contact lens patients as they feel comfortable scheduling.
We offer extern shared housing in a 2 bedroom condominium with pool and tennis courts located 2 blocks from the beach at no cost to the externs.
We also have a fellowship trained cornea and cataract surgeon, Dr. Charles Adams come to our office alternating with 2 retinal specialists from Fla. Retina Institute.
We have had over 30 externs from Nova Southeastern University and Southern College of Optometry over the last few years. We feel that we provide externs with a strong real world clinical optometric experience. Our goal is to help them
with the transition from the college optometry clinics to practicing full scope Optometry with both competence and confidence.
